What's MP govt's 'Bag-less' School rules?
According to the notice, students in classes 1 and 2 should carry bags weighing between 1.6 to 2.2 kg, while students in classes 3 to 5 should carry bags weighing between 1.7 to 2.5 kg. Similarly, students in classes 6 and 7 should carry bags weighing between 2 to 3 kg, and students in classes 8 should carry bags weighing between 2.5 to 4 kg. For students in classes 9 and 10, the weight limit is set between 2.5 to 4.5 kg. MP School Bags Weight Rules
The weight of school bags for students in classes 11 and 12 will be decided by the school management committee based on the students' chosen streams. Uday Pratap Singh, the Minister of School Education, explained the rationale behind this decision, stating, 'To prevent children from experiencing stress due to heavy bags, we have categorized the weight limits based on their respective classes. Younger students will have lighter bags weighing up to 2.2 kg, while older students will have bags weighing up to 4.5 kg.Additionally, we have introduced the concept of 'bag less school' once a week.' He further elaborated on the purpose of this initiative, stating that children should have the opportunity to enjoy their day at school by engaging in games, sports activities, cultural programs, and music, allowing school to be a joyful experience rather than a source of stress. The Madhya Pradesh government has emphasized the strict implementation of the school bag policy starting from the new academic session of 2024-25.
