'Look inward': India 'categorically rejects' Pakistan's Karachi violence claims as 'baseless'

India on Sunday vehemently dismissed Pakistan's allegations linking it to Saturda's violence in Karachi, calling the claims "baseless" and urging Islamabad to focus instead on dismantling terrorist infrastructure operating within its own borders.

Responding to media queries, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi "categorically rejects" the allegations, describing them as an attempt to deflect attention from Pakistan's internal challenges.

"We have seen Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India regarding the recent incident in Karachi. We categorically reject them," he said.

"Instead of pointing fingers at others, Pakistan would do better to look inwards, take credible action against the terror infrastructure on its territory and rid itself of its proclivity to rely on terrorism as an instrument of state policy," Jaiswal said in an official statement.


The statement came a day after reports of bomb blasts and firing in Karachi triggered accusations from Pakistan against India.

After condeming the attack, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, without proof, connected the incident to Indian action against Pakistan, according to Pakistani media.

What happened in Karachi?

The accusations followed a major militant attack on a Pakistan Rangers headquarters in Karachi's densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on Saturday.

According to officials, at least three Rangers personnel were killed after heavily armed attackers rammed a vehicle through the compound's main gate before storming the premises. Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho said security personnel immediately retaliated, leading to an intense gun battle inside the complex.

An explosion was heard at the start of the assault, although authorities said the exact cause was still under investigation.

Sindh Home Minister Zia ul Hasan Lanjhar said commandos from the Special Security Unit and the Anti-Terrorist Force joined Rangers personnel in an operation to neutralise the attackers and secure the area.

Local media reported that the attack unfolded near several educational institutions and the Pakistan Meteorological Department, triggering panic in the neighbourhood. Police, paramilitary forces and rapid response teams quickly sealed off the area, while surrounding roads were closed as the clearance operation continued.

Authorities have not yet revealed the identity or number of the attackers, and investigations into the assault remain underway.
