London School of Economics and Political Science has awarded N.K. Singh, former chairman of 15th Finance Commission with an Honorary Fellowship.

The award acknowledges Singh’s immense contribution to LSE and its global community and underscores the recipient's enduring legacy of surpassing reasonable expectations.

Singh was the Co-Convenor of the High-Level Expert Group for the reforms of Multilateral Development Banks formed by the G20 and is the President of the Institute of Economic Growth.


He also headed the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Review Committee (FRBM).

Speaking at the occasion of receiving the award, Singh said,: “The LSE has been a centre of academic excellence since its inception in 1895. Its connection with India has been an intensive, inquisitive and integral relationship.”

He further said steps have been taken to strengthen Multilateral Development Banks, “World Bank has already announced a robust guarantee program, beefing up the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) that will allow World Bank to take more informed risk decisions.”

He joins the likes of Rt. Hon. Lord Beveridge, Professor Sir Karl Popper, Professor Amartya Sen, Dame Eugina Charles, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who have been previously awarded the honorary award.

Singh has been an integral part of the team formulating policies shaping the Indian economy, including the 1991 economic reforms.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said : “N.K. Singh’s profound expertise in fiscal policy, coupled with his unwavering commitment to fiscal prudence, transparency, and cooperative federalism, epitomises his enduring legacy.”
