Local politicians, journalists scuffle with IndiGo's agents in Jabalpur

Local journalists and politicians at Jabalpur airport Friday got into a scuffle with IndiGo's agents when the airline launched flights from the city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh to Delhi and Mumbai.

The scuffle broke about over refreshments at an event to flag the commencement of flights.

"We would like to clearly state that neither of IndiGo employees were involved in the said incident. There was arrangement for refreshments and water which was provided to all invitees," the airline said in a statement.


"However regretfully, one of our affiliates was beaten up and his clothes were torn off. The situation later came in control after some internal consultation amongst the attendees,".

Videos of the kerfuffle were widely shared on social media channels.

"The event had been planned as a moderate affair. However, more people turned up and there wasn't enough seating arrangements and refreshments. Seats were being arranged but then some visitors created a ruckus. And it soon got out of hand," said a person in the know.

A passenger on board an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Delhi in January got into a fight with staff when he forcefully made his way to the lavatory when the seat belt signs were on.

A police official in November slapped an airport staff when he reached the check in counter late and wasn't issued a boarding pass.
