The decision was taken a week after Union home minister Amit Shah chaired a security review meeting in Jammu. The LG's office informed that the fresh batch of destinations were opened after security review and discussion.
Following the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, in which 26 people including 25 tourists were killed, the government had announced temporary precautionary closure of 48 tourist spots mostly in the upper reaches of the mountains due to the prevailing security threat in the region.
The Pahalgam attack and the strict security measures that followed wiped out last year's tourist season in Kashmir Valley. In 2025, the government had opened 29 of the 48 spots in a phased manner.
"After a thorough security review and discussion, LG Manoj Sinha has ordered the reopening of 11 tourist spots in Kashmir and three in Jammu division," read the official statement from Lok Bhavan. The reopened destinations in Kashmir include Yusmarg and Doodhpathri in Budgam, Dandipora Park in Kokernag of Anantnag, Peer Ki Gali, Dubjan and Padpawan in Shopian, Astanpora and Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Thajwas Glacier and Hung Park in Ganderbal and Wullar/Watlab in Baramulla. In Jammu division, Devi Pindi in Reasi, Mahu Mangat in Ramban and Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar will be reopened.
