Mumbai saw an outpouring of grief on Monday as thousands gathered to bid a final farewell to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle.

Her mortal remains were cremated at the Shivaji Park Crematorium in Mumbai. Earlier in the day, her body was kept at her residence, draped in the Tricolour, with long queues of fans, industry colleagues and political leaders lining up to pay their respects.

Bhosle died on Sunday at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital, bringing to a close a career that spanned more than eight decades.

Widely regarded as one of the most versatile voices in Indian music, her repertoire cut across genres—from classical and ghazals to cabaret and pop. She also held a Guinness World Record for the highest number of studio recordings and, along with her sister Lata Mangeshkar, shaped the golden era of Hindi film music.

Born to Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, Bhosle began singing at a young age and went on to build one of the most enduring legacies in Indian music. Her collaborations with composer R. D. Burman remain among the most celebrated in Hindi cinema.
