Lakhimpur Kheri violence case: Supreme Court asks Allahabad High Court to examine charges against trial judge

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court to examine allegations of irregularities against the trial judge conducting proceedings in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case and submit a report in a sealed cover.

A three-member bench of CJI Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana ordered that the allegations be placed before the chief justice of the high court for examination and appropriate action. The direction came during the hearing of proceedings relating to the trial against Ashish Mishra and others in connection with the violence in which eight people were killed.

UP has been directed to appoint a senior public prosecutor for the trial and place the decision on record in two weeks. The alleged disappearance of the site plan relating to the incident from the trial court record was also raised.
