Lakhimpur Kheri: Three more arrested in Kheri case

UP police arrested three more in the Lakhimpur Kheri case in which eight people including four protesting farmers were killed in the district's Tikonia area.

With the three arrests on Saturday, a total of 13 people have been arrested in the case, including union minister of state Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra. All the arrests have been in relation to the FIR filed from the farmers side alleging Mishra to have run over the four farmers, killing them. In the other FIR that was filed in relation to the lynching of two BJP workers that took place after the farmer had been mowed down by a car belonging to Mishra, no arrests have been made so far, said a senior police official. However, last week, some notices were served to some local farmers.

The three arrested are named Mohit Trivedi of Singahi town, Ranku Rana of Barsola Kalan and Dharmendra of Chimma Tanda- both falling under the jurisdiction of Tikonia police station. The arrests were made during the interrogation of some of the accused arrested before.


Apart from Mishra, another high profile arrest is of Ankit Das, nephew of Akhilesh Das, a former Congress leader and son of Babu Banarsi Das, former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. He is currently in judicial custody.
