"In our continued commitment to support the families, affected by the tragic violence in Ladakh on 24 September last year, today sanctioned a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the next of kin of each of the four deceased," Saxena informed.
He further said that ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh for those with major injuries and Rs 1 lakh for minor injuries has also been approved.
The members of Apex Body Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance from Ladakh who had the lastest round of talks with the MHA on September 9, expressed their unhappiness over the GoI's progress on the promises and demanded fresh assurances from them within a week. They have decided to commemorate September as the 'month of sacrifice' in honor of four people killed by armed forces on September 24, 2025 and ove 80 others injured and equal number of people arrested. The administration has already revoked cases against 25 people.
The representatives of Ladakh have now planned a 'padyatra from Karil to Leh from September 19 to 24" if GoI doesn't come out with any formal assurances especially regarding Article 371 that has been discussed earlier as well. Also they questioned why the judicial enquiry report into the incident has not been completed yet.
"Deeply grateful to Union Home Minister for his sensitive, humanitarian and guiding approach, who has always stood in solidarity with the victims and their families," said Saxena.
He further said that no compensation amount can replace a life lost or erase the pain endured and reiterated that Ladakh administration firmly stands beside every affected family in their journey towards healing and overcoming the grief.
