Ladakh leaders meet Union home ministry officials in Leh, discuss statehood and special provisions

Members of Apex Body Leh (ABL) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) held a meeting with Union home ministry officials in Leh on Friday, after which the minutes of the previous meeting held in Delhi were made public. The representatives of Ladakh said that the ministry had now included their demands and mutually agreed options in the minutes of the meeting held in Delhi on May 22.

"In this meeting the government has agreed on what we had said in the May 22 meeting. We will now be interacting in a formal meeting in New Delhi," ABL co-chairman Chering Dorjay Lakruk told ET.

The minutes of the meeting shared by KDA co-chairman Sajjad Kargili and signed by all participants mentioned the demand of statehood for Ladakh and said that the special provisions of Articles 371(A) to (J) would be implemented in Ladakh and that the government would function like an assembly with powers to legislate on all matters pertaining to the Union Territory.


"Today's meeting in Leh with political leaders of ABL and KDA along with senior officers of MHA was held in a positive and constructive spirit. It ended on a note of optimism, with a consensus on the broad framework as agreed in the last meeting of 22nd May in New Delhi," Ashish Kundra, chief secretary of Ladakh.

The minutes also mentioned that the representatives of Ladakh had sought withdrawal of all cases regarding the September 24, 2025 incident.
