Labour ministry conducts performance review of its field offices

In a move aimed at ensuring timely resolution of industrial disputes and expediting the processing of claim settlements, labour and employment secretary Sumita Dawra conducted a performance review of field offices on Monday.

The review of the field offices, which fall under the office of chief labour commissioner (central), focused on the status of pending industrial disputes, claim cases, and the reporting of inspection cases on the Shram Suvidha Portal (SSP).

Emphasizing on the importance of timely disposal of industrial disputes, secretary Dawra urged field offices to prioritize long-pending claim cases, the ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday.


“She directed field offices to analyze the reasons for pendency and take appropriate corrective measures to alleviate the plight of workers,” it added.

According to the statement, the performance of field offices was assessed state-wise, with those demonstrating timely case disposal and low inspection report pendency being commended.

“Field offices lagging behind were given specific directions to improve their performance,” it said, adding that the ministry feels that reducing the number of industrial disputes would enhance India’s attractiveness as an investment destination, ultimately leading to economic growth and employment generation.

Reiterating that this would help realize the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Dawra said weekly progress of the field offices will be taken up and urged officials to maintain close collaboration and teamwork to ensure the effective implementation of labor welfare measures.
