Labour Codes: Unions call for strike on February 12

New Delhi: A joint platform of 10 central trade unions and sectoral federations has called for a one-day nationwide strike on February 12, against the four Labour Codes notified last month, pressing the government to repeal them. The strike date will be formally ratified at the National Workers' Convention to be held on January 9, 2026.

The 10 central trade unions included AITUC, HMS, CITU, INTUC, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC.

"The government is trying to utilise all of its institutional machinery, media, and public sector management to build a positive consensus around these codes. But the workers are determined to fight against the unilateral imposition," the unions said in a joint statement.


The unions have threatened to go for further strong actions, including a multiple-day strike and sectoral resistance actions, they said.
