A Kuwait-flagged oil product tanker carrying 21 Indian seafarers was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, October 21, but all crew members on board are safe.

The vessel, M/T Al Dasma, was hit in the narrow waterway that links the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. Details on where the projectile came from and how badly the ship was damaged were not immediately available.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed the incident in a post on X. “All 21 of our Indian crew members, along with the rest of the crew are completely safe,” he wrote.

He added that the government is “continuously monitoring the situation” and remains “in close contact with the ship management company” to ensure the security and wellbeing of the seafarers.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) tracked the strike about 11 nautical miles west of Bukha in Oman, on the southern side of the strait.
