The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government for allegedly reducing selectively the number of holidays for Hindu festivals in the state's schools. According to reports, the state education department has released the holiday calendar for 2024, which shows a removal of holidays for Hartalika Teej and Jitiya, while extending the holidays for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) to three days each.

BJP MP Sushil Modi, quoted by ANI, accused the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government of displaying an anti-Hindu stance with its decision to hurt Hindu sentiments. He claimed that holidays for Hindu festivals have been selectively reduced, while those for Muslim festivals have been increased.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh echoed this sentiment, stating that the reduction of Hindu holidays and the increase in Muslim festival holidays indicates that the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government is working based on Islamic religious beliefs. He warned that if these holidays are not reinstated, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will face consequences in the upcoming elections.

Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, referring to Nitish Kumar as the leader of appeasement and "Kursi Kumar" of Bihar, alleged that the government of Nitish Kumar and his nephew has once again revealed its anti-Hindu stance.

Expressing his disapproval on social media platform X, the veteran BJP leader criticized the government for extending holidays for Muslim festivals in schools while abolishing holidays for Hindu festivals. He condemned the government for prioritizing vote bank politics over the Sanatan (eternal) values.
