“The CoWIN portal/application is found to have certain limitations with regard to choosing vaccination centres which is leading to chaos. We will come up with a technology solution to better manage the vaccination process, following which, we will relaunch the vaccination drive to the 18-44 age group,” Yediyurappa said, addressing the media along with some of his cabinet colleagues on measures taken by the state government to handle the pandemic.
Karnataka’s vaccine registration portal will most likely prevent people from selecting vaccine centres located in faraway places from their place of residence. There have been reports of tech-savvy urbanites booking slots in distant government hospitals and driving hundreds of kilometres to get the shot. This was depriving the rural population from getting vaccinated at the nearest government medical centres.
The CM said the government will use the service of well-known microbiologist Prof Gagandeep Kang to devise its vaccination strategy. “Kang has been appointed as an advisor. She will assist our vaccination strategy,” he said.
The government also formed a task force chaired by cardiac surgeon Dr Devi Shetty to prepare for the probable third wave.
