Kota Horror: 14 kids electrocuted during Maha Shivratri celebrations

Fourteen children participating in the 'Shiv Barat' procession to mark Mahashivratri in Kota suffered burn injuries on Friday morning due to electrocution. The incident occurred in the Sakatoura area under the jurisdiction of Kunhari police station when they came into contact with a high-tension power line overhead. According to a senior police official, two of the children sustained severe burn injuries of 100% and 50%, respectively, while the remaining twelve suffered injuries of less than 50%.

The children who suffered the electric shock were rushed to hospital immediately for their treatment.

The incident happened when people from the Kaali Basti gathered with their Kalash and a child was carrying a pipe of 20-22 ft that touched the high-tension wire, said Kota SP Amrita Duhan. The SP added that in an attempt to save that child, all the children present there were electrocuted.




"The priority is to give them proper treatment. One is in serious condition with 100% burns. An investigation has been initiated and if there has been any negligence from anyone, it will come out in the report. Except for the one who is 25 years of age, the rest children are below 14 years," said the SP.

Commenting on the incident, Rajasthan Minister Heeralal Nagar said, "It's a very sad incident... Two children are seriously injured with one having 100% burns. A special team has been formed to provide all possible treatment. Officials are directed to investigate if there has been any kind of negligence..."
