Public prosecutor Sourin Ghosal told the court that the survivor had a panic attack when the accused tried to pin her down. When she struggled to breathe, they gave her an inhaler, but only so she could regain consciousness and be assaulted again.
"They were very desperate," said Ghosal. "The inhaler wasn’t to help her, it was to continue the attack."
Police seek more time to investigate
The police requested the court to extend custody of the accused, saying they were influential and could interfere with the investigation or intimidate the survivor if released.Officers added that the survivor’s medical report confirmed her claims, and technical and circumstantial evidence supported her version. This includes CCTV footage from the chemist where the inhaler was bought, mobile location data of the accused, and witness statements.

Accused claim it was consensual
The main accused, Monojit Mishra, along with Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, did not ask for bail but denied all charges. They claimed the act was consensual and accused the survivor of making false claims.Their lawyer also hinted at a possible conspiracy and asked for the survivor’s call records to be examined.
Meanwhile, Pinaki Banerjee, the security guard named in the case, claimed his powers were limited and requested the court to consider his role carefully.
The court has extended police custody of Monojit, Zaib, and Pramit till July 8, and Pinaki till July 4.
Police Commissioner speaks out
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma called the case “very sensitive” and said they would do everything possible to ensure a quick trial.“We have collected multiple pieces of evidence, and verification is ongoing. If proven guilty, strict punishment will be sought,” he assured.
