The Kolkata Police constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday to investigate the alleged gangrape of a woman at South Calcutta Law College on the evening of June 25.

The SIT will operate under the supervision of ACP Pradip Kumar Ghosal of the SSD unit. "An SIT has been formed to probe into the alleged crime. It will start its investigation immediately," an officer told PTI.

The team, led by an officer of assistant commissioner rank, has been tasked with initiating the probe immediately and collecting all relevant evidence, including witness testimonies and forensic material.

The police have named three accused in the case: Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay.

All three were arrested soon after the survivor, a 24-year-old student of the college, lodged her complaint alleging she was assaulted inside the guard’s room by her seniors and an alumnus.

The accused were produced before the court, which has remanded them to police custody until July 1 for further interrogation. In addition, the college guard was arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of facilitating the crime.
