The injured victim, reportedly a rag picker, sustained a wrist injury and was immediately taken to NRS Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
The Kolkata Police responded quickly to the incident, with the Officer-in-Charge of Taltala station arriving on the scene to manage the situation.
The area was swiftly cordoned off with security tape, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was called in to assess the situation.
BDDS personnel conducted a thorough examination of the bag and the surrounding vicinity before giving the all-clear.
Traffic was allowed to resume once the area was deemed safe. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the blast.
Calling the matter serious, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting a thorough investigation into the case.
"I urge you to consider a detailed investigation by the NIA or another central agency to ensure a thorough examination of all possible angles related to the incident," read the letter by Majumdar.

A person claiming to be an eyewitness to the event recounted it and said that the explosion was extremely loud, causing considerable concern among those nearby.
