The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct a psychological assessment of Sanjay Roy, the accused in the rape and murder case of a doctor in Kolkata, officials told PTI. Psychological and behavioral specialists from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) have arrived in Kolkata for the assessment. The CBI has already taken Roy into custody and is actively investigating the case.

Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is being questioned by the CBI for a second consecutive day in connection with the incident. The questioning of Ghosh began on Friday and continued till early Saturday morning around 1:40 AM.

The case revolves around the tragic death of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered inside a seminar hall at the state-run hospital. Her body was discovered on August 9. Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, has been arrested in relation to the case.

The victim's parents have approached the Calcutta High Court, requesting a court-monitored investigation. Multiple public interest litigation (PIL) pleas have also been filed, demanding that the case be handed over to the CBI for a thorough probe.

A preliminary autopsy report suggested that the trainee doctor was sexually abused before being killed. The report noted she was bleeding from her eyes, mouth, and private parts, with additional injuries observed on her left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger, and lips.

Authorities revealed that Roy joined the Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer in 2019. Police claim that Roy had been married at least four times and described him as a known "womaniser".

The police described Roy as a trained boxer who developed close relationships with certain senior police officers over the years. Due to these connections, he was assigned to the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and subsequently posted at the police outpost of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
