Pro-Khalistan supporters breach security at EAM Jaishankar’s London event at Chatham House
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar faced a tense moment in London when Khalistani extremists attempted to attack him as he departed from a discussion at Chatham House. A video shared by THE_SQUADR0N (@THE_SQUADR0N) shows a man sprinting towards Jaishankar’s vehicle and tearing what initially looks like the Indian national flag in full view of London police officers, as reported by TOI. Despite the act of vandalism, the officers appeared unresponsive.

Pro-Khalistan demonstrators gathered outside the venue, waving flags and protesting against Jaishankar’s presence. ANI (@ANI) reported that the demonstrators were vocal in their opposition, attempting to disrupt the minister’s engagements.

Jaishankar’s Official UK Visit

The incident took place during Jaishankar’s official visit to the United Kingdom from March 4-9. His trip is focused on strengthening the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership, covering trade, health, education, defence cooperation, and people-to-people ties.

Jaishankar is scheduled to meet British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and other senior officials. The discussions are expected to cover key geopolitical issues, security cooperation, and bilateral trade agreements.

Planned Trip to Ireland

Following his engagements in the UK, Jaishankar will travel to Ireland from March 6-7. He is set to meet Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris and engage with other officials. His visit also includes an interaction with the Indian diaspora in Ireland, reinforcing India’s outreach to its global community.

Security Concerns for Indian Diplomats Abroad

The incident in London highlights ongoing security challenges faced by Indian officials abroad, especially in countries where pro-Khalistan protests have become more frequent. Similar demonstrations have taken place in other cities, raising concerns about the safety of Indian diplomats during official visits. The lack of police intervention in this case has sparked questions over the security measures in place for foreign dignitaries in the UK.
