Kerala govt has decided to continue with Sunday lockdowns given the surge in cases. An exemption was given in the last two weeks by the state government for Independence Day and Onam celebrations.

The state's chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan retaliated to the criticism of Kerala's high reported cases, saying "In all 3 seroprevalance studies conducted in the country, it was revealed that Kerala is the state with the least percentage of the population infected. We did not waste a single drop of vaccine and successfully inoculated extra doses."

India added 44,658 fresh cases over the last 24 hours, while deaths from COVID-19 rose by 496.
