The Kerala government on Wednesday announced a Rs 400 hike in the monthly welfare pension, raising it to Rs 2,000.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a press conference here after the state Cabinet meeting.

Around 62 lakh people who currently receive 1,600 each as social security pension will now get Rs 2,000 per month.
