Kerala local body polls: BJP breaks 45-year left rule, wins Thiruvananthapuram Corporation
For the first time, the BJP-led NDA has won control of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, ending 45 years of CPI(M)-led Left rule in Kerala’s capital. In the 101-ward civic body, the NDA secured 50 seats, defeating the ruling LDF, which won 29 seats. The Congress-led UDF finished with 19 seats, while two seats went to Independents. Polling in one ward was cancelled following the death of a candidate. The result is being seen as a major political signal ahead of the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, especially in urban constituencies such as Nemom, Vattiyoorkavu and Kazhakkoottam
