Kerala Bridge Collapse: Fifteen people, including women and children, were injured after a floating bridge collapsed at Varkala beach due to high tidal waves. Despite wearing life jackets, they struggled to swim ashore amidst strong waves. Lifeguards and security personnel promptly rescued them, with two individuals in critical condition.

Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas inaugurated the district's first floating bridge on December 26, 2023. This marks the seventh floating bridge in the state, with dimensions of 100 meters in length and three meters in width.



Several people were including two children, were injured. Two individuals with serious injuries were referred to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College.

The use of life jackets facilitated the quick and safe rescue of those on the bridge. The incident occurred around 5 pm on Saturday evening.

An officer from the Varkala police station stated, "As the people standing on the floating bridge were wearing life jackets, they could be brought back to shore quickly and safely without any loss of life."

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures at tourist spots. Immediate medical attention was provided to the injured, emphasizing the need for preparedness in such situations.
