Kerala blast: Preliminary probe shows IED device used in convention centre in Kalamassery, says DGP
Kerala DGP said an SIT will be constituted to investigate the blast at the Kalamassery convention centre that left 36 injured and one dead.

Union Home Minister Amit on Sunday spoke with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and also instructed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) to reach on the spot and start an inquiry into the incident.

NSG has rushed one of its bomb disposal units from Delhi to Kerala to collect and inquire about the materials used in the explosion that took place at Zamra International Convention and Exhibition Centre in the Kalamassery area in Ernakulam district today leaving one killed and several injured.

State Industries Minister P Rajeev said the blast site is cordoned off and police and fire rescue have been pressed into service.

The Collector N S K Umesh said of the injured, 10 people were admitted to the burns unit of the Kalamassery Medical College and of them two, suffering from over 50 per cent burns, have been shifted to another hospital. Besides that, eight people were admitted in the general ward of the medical college and the remaining 18 were under observation in various other hospitals, he told reporters here. He also said the identity of the woman who died in the incident is not yet known.

People who were present at the convention centre told media that the first blast occurred in the middle of a prayer.
