Kashmir issue should be resolved through dialogue between India and Pakistan: China

Amid India's Supreme Court affirming the central government's stance on Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reasserted China's unwavering position on the Kashmir matter.

Emphasizing the imperative for dialogue and a peaceful resolution, Mao underscored the significance of honoring the UN charter, UNSC resolutions, and pertinent bilateral agreements to address the longstanding India-Pakistan dispute.

"This historical dispute between India and Pakistan should be peacefully resolved, as per the UN charter, UNSC resolutions, and relevant bilateral agreements," stated Mao, advocating for dialogue and consultations among involved parties to preserve regional peace and stability.


The apex court's unanimous decision upheld the revocation of Article 370, additionally mandating the reinstatement of statehood and scheduling assembly elections in the region by September 30 next year. Mao reiterated the necessity for involved parties to engage in dialogue and consultations, emphasizing the criticality of upholding peace and stability.

Pakistan, an ally of China, disregarded the legal weight of India's Supreme Court verdict on Article 370, contending that international law does not recognize India's actions of August 5, 2019, deeming them "unilateral and illegal."
