The Madras High Court on Friday rejected BJP leader Uma Anandan's plea seeking a CBI investigation into the September 27 stampede at actor-politician Vijay's public rally, which claimed the lives of 41 people.

Anandan had moved court saying there were many questions, including possible official apathy behind the fatal incident. A division bench of Justice P Velmurugan and Justice G Arul Murugan rejected the plea and asked the petitioner to approach the Madurai bench of the High Court, the jurisdictional court.

According to the petitioner, the TN DGP had already pre-determined the outcome of the incident even without conducting an impartial investigation.

In view of the statements made by the DGP in media interviews, no impartial or independent probe is possible now by the TN police, she said.
