The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor - linking Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab's Gurdaspur district - will reopen on Wednesday, Union home minister Amit Shah has said.

"In a major decision, that will benefit large numbers of Sikh pilgrims, PM @Narendramodi government has decided to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor from tomorrow, November 17," Shah tweeted on Tuesday. "This decision reflects the immense reverence of Modi government towards Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and our Sikh community." The decision comes ahead of the 'Prakash Utsav', or birth anniversary, of Guru Nanak on November 19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan inaugurated the corridor in November 2019. The corridor was closed for pilgrims in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi welcomed the Centre's decision to reopen the corridor and said the state Cabinet will be part of the "jatha" that will visit the shrine in Pakistan on November 18.

However, online registration for pilgrims is yet to be started by the authorities.
