Bengaluru: The Karnataka government plans to develop Tumakuru as a major industrial manufacturing hub after Bengaluru, with the proposed industrial node expected to attract investments of around Rs 7,000 crore and create more than 88,000 jobs, industries minister MB Patil said on Monday.

The state has earmarked 1,736 acres for the Tumakuru Node of the Bengaluru-Chennai Industrial Corridor. The node has achieved 30% physical progress and 20% financial progress, according to a state government statement.

In the statement, Patil said 300 acres of the land earmarked for the project have been allocated for a Japan Industrial Township, while 200 acres have been set aside for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The Tumakuru node has Jindal Aluminium as its anchor investor, with the company allotted 151 acres. Another 41 acres has been earmarked for institutional use. Land acquisition is progressing and the project is scheduled for completion in 2027, Patil said.

The node will focus on sectors including food and beverages, textiles and apparel, electronics, chemicals, general engineering and logistics, he said.

The state government will also extend necessary support for the completion of the PM MITRA Industrial Park sanctioned for Kalaburagi and projects approved for Karnataka under the BHAVYA initiative, Patil said.

The Bengaluru-Chennai, Bengaluru-Hyderabad and Bengaluru-Mumbai industrial corridors are being developed under the programme. The project, estimated to cost Rs 50,759 crore, has the potential to attract investments of Rs 5.35 lakh crore and generate 14 lakh jobs, Sitharaman said.

The project will cover 49,120 acres, with 100 industrial parks planned under the BHAVYA initiative, she said.
