This is the 75th kitchen of the Foundation which serves over 2.2 million children studying in 23,110 government schools and Anganwadi centres in 16 states and 2 union territories.
"This new kitchen will help provide more nutritious meals to eligible children. We are happy to have cooperated with them, especially during difficult times like flood relief and Covid-19. The kitchen at Chikkajala is Bengaluru's 5th kitchen and is designed to provide midday meals to 35,000 children in More than 200 government schools, with the capacity to serve up to 70,000 children when needed,” Krishna Byre Gowda said.
It was Tamil Nadu which first implemented the midday meal scheme for schoolchildren, but it was Karnataka’s midday meal scheme that garnered appreciation from the Supreme Court and opened the eyes of all states, he said, while appreciating the work of The Akshaya Patra in scaling up its reach and addressing the hunger of school children.
