Karnataka weather: IMD forecasts heavy rain with thunderstorm in some places

Karnataka weather: The India Meteorological Department has forecast that heavy rainfall is likely
to occur tomorrow at isolated places over Chamarajanagara, Mysuru and Ramanagara districts of the state. It also said that thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at isolated places over all the districts of South Interior Karnataka from 3rd May to 6th May 2023.

Today, rainfall occurred at a few places over South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka & North Interior Karnataka.


Light rain very likely to occur at isolated places over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, from 3-5 May, the weather department said.

Light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Bidar, Kalaburgi, Raichur,
Koppal & Yadgir districts, from 3-5 May.

Light to moderate rain very likely to occur at a few places over all the districts of south interior Karnataka.

On 6th May, light rain very likely to occur at isolated places over all the districts, the weather department said.

It advised people to check for traffic congestion their your route before leaving for their destination.

"The trough/wind discontinuity from west Vidarbha to South Interior Karnataka now runs from
southwest Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu across Marathwada and interior Karnataka at
0.9 km above mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation lies over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood up to 0.9 km above mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation lies over South Interior Karnataka & adjoining Tamil Nadu between 1.5 km & 3.1 km above mean sea level. A trough runs from the above cyclonic circulation over South Interior Karnataka & adjoining Tamil Nadu to Southwest Bay of Bengal off north Sri Lanka coast between 1.5 km & 3.1 km above mean sea level," the weather department said.

The weather department has forecast enhanced rainfall activity over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and
Karaikal for the next two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) with light to moderate rain at most places and isolated heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorm and lightning in some places.
