Karnataka to develop KTPO site with convention centre, exhibition halls: MB Patil

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government plans to comprehensively develop the 48.35-acre site owned by Karnataka Trade Promotion Organisation (KTPO) in Bengaluru with a convention centre, exhibition halls and other facilities, industries minister MB Patil said on Tuesday.

The development will include a global-standard trade, exhibition and convention facility on five acres of the site. RSP has been asked to redesign the project after studying facilities such as the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi in Delhi, Patil said in a statement.

The proposed facility will have 10,000 sq m each on the ground and upper floors, with a total built-up area of 20,000 sq m. It will include parking for 500 cars and can be used for conventions, product launches, commercial exhibitions, trade events and music concerts, he said.


Patil visited the KTPO premises on Tuesday along with India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) chairman Javed Ashraf to review the existing facilities and plans for the vacant land.

KTPO originally had 50 acres at the site, of which 1.65 acres was given to the Metro Rail Corporation, leaving 48.35 acres. The site currently has two exhibition halls; one built in 2002 and another in 2024. The government is also considering whether to retain or redevelop the older hall as part of the overall development plan, Patil said.

ITPO holds a 51% stake in KTPO, while the Karnataka government holds the remaining 49%.

The government is also looking to monetise 14 acres of vacant land near the Kundalahalli Metro station and the main road. A transaction adviser will be appointed to recommend options for the land, Patil said.

The proposed development is aimed at strengthening Bengaluru’s facilities for trade, exhibitions and commercial events, he added.

Chief minister’s economic adviser LK Ateeq, principal secretary to the industries department S Selvakumar, ITPO managing director Neeraj Kharwal and KTPO managing director BK Shivakumar were present at the meeting.
