Karnataka HC grants relief to Café Coffee Day in FEMA case

The Bengaluru-headquartered coffee chain had moved the high court challenging the proceedings initiated by the ED under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in connection with a case the agency registered in 2022.
Justice BM Shyam Prasad, while granting interim relief to the petition, directed the ED to defer proceedings till the next date of hearing and it would be subject to further orders of the court at the next hearing.
On January 19, Monday, the court granted Coffee Day CEO Malavika Hegde interim relief on a similar plea, staying the FEMA proceedings until further orders.
The court has posted both petitions for further hearing on February 23.
