The state experienced a peak power demand of approximately 17,000 MW last summer. The department projected an uptick in consumption by 2,000 MW based on estimates from State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) and Power Company of Karnataka Limited (PCKL)using AI analysis.
“To ensure a smooth power supply, the state is sourcing electricity from neighbouring states, prioritizing power exchanges. Immediate discussions must be initiated with these states to finalize agreements for this purpose,” George said during the meeting adding that considering the high costs of short-term electricity procurement it is crucial to secure long-term contracts at lower rates.
The minister also spoke about the progress of the Kusum C Feeder Solarization Project under which the government will install solar power-generating units to supply electricity directly to nearby substations. George further instructed the implementing vendors under the scheme to fast-track their work and ensure the project is executed within the deadlines prescribed without any delays.
“This approach ensures that power is consistently available within each substation, effectively addressing potential customer power issues,” the energy department said.
