Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve the phase-3 of Bangalore Metro covering an additional length of 45-km at an estimated cost of Rs 15,611 crore.

The state government has already submitted the detailed project report (DPR) of phase-3 to the centre, the CM said at the virtual launch of the two sections of the Purple Line of Namma Metro by the PM. With Challaghatta-Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli-KR Puram sections open, the metro network’s length has increased to 74-km and about seven lakh people were using it daily, the CM added.

The government has commissioned a detailed project report (DPR) for connecting Sarjapur and Hebbal covering a length of 37-km. The 3.14-km north extension from Nagasandra to Madavara, and the new 19.15-km line from RV Road to Bommasandra were nearing completion, Siddaramaiah said, adding that the government planned to open them early next year.

The new 21.26-km line from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara was targeted for completion by March 2025. With the completion of these lines, the operational network would increase to 117-km, with an estimated ridership of 12 lakh commuters a day. In addition, the 58-km ongoing ORR-Airport metro project was likely to be completed by 2026, the CM said.

Once the airport metro line was thrown open, the network length would further go up to 176-km, pushing up the ridership to two million commuters a day.

Bengaluru had been growing at a faster pace and the state government had cleared 317-km of metro lines under the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) by the year 2031, of which 257-km are under operation, construction and planning stage. The government would commission a feasibility survey for the remaining 60-km of metro lines soon, the CM said.
