Law enforcement agencies have only managed to recover Rs 74 crore and arrest 208 individuals, underscoring the difficulty in resolving these cases.
Although specific district-wise data is not available, officials indicate that most cases originate from Bengaluru. City Police Chief B Dayanand emphasised the importance of prompt reporting in cybercrimes, akin to the "golden hour" principle in road accidents. "The sooner you report a crime, the easier it is to detect," he told TOI.

Job Scams Lead in Cybercrime Cases
Job-related frauds are the most prevalent, with 8,231 recorded cases, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue. Despite efforts, authorities have only recovered Rs 69 crore, reflecting a recovery rate of 12%, raising concerns about the effectiveness of current countermeasures. Additionally, only 148 arrests have been made, indicating that many perpetrators remain at large. The average loss per case is approximately Rs 6.9 lakh, showing that scammers are targeting significant amounts from each victim.Loan App Frauds and Fake Foreign Firms
Loan app frauds have also emerged as a major threat, with 1,322 cases resulting in Rs 27 crore in losses. Authorities have managed to recover Rs 3.6 crore and arrest 59 individuals involved in these schemes.Authorities urge citizens to stay vigilant and exercise caution when engaging in online transactions or responding to unsolicited job offers and loan applications.
Another senior official suggested that the state might consider appointing a special officer at the state level to handle cybercrimes, reflecting the urgent need for specialised attention and resources to combat this growing issue.
