The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) on Monday asked Karnataka to release 2600 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu from November 1 to November 15.

The latest order is a step-down from 3000 cusecs the committee had ordered for the 15-day period from October 15.

Tamil Nadu had sought release of 13,000 cusecs for the 15-day period in early November, which would have worked out to 16.90 tmc ft of water.

But the State's team of officials had submitted to CWRC requesting it to report to the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) that Karnataka will not be able to release any water from its reservoirs in the light of near nil inflows into the four Cauvery basin reservoirs, except the flow from the uncontrolled catchment region downstream.
