Kargil Plateau Nath Baba: Indian Army is maintaining this miraculous temple where bombs don't explode
During the 1971 and 1999 wars, the 'Plateau Nath Baba Mandir,' located near Kargil, reportedly protected troops from bomb explosions with divine blessings. Soldiers believe the temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and maintained by the Punjab Regiment,...

Before 1971, a person known as Baba stayed in a hut behind the current temple, within the area of responsibility of the Light Regiment of the Army. This person, deeply engrossed in tending and serving animals, lived free of earthly bonds. Over time, people started visiting him, calling him Baba. During the 1971 India-Pakistan War, enemy shelling heavily targeted Kargil town. Shells landed in the plateau, mainly occupied by the Army's establishment, but reportedly, none of these shells exploded.
Army sources recount this event as miraculous. During the shelling incident, the Baba advised locals to dispose of the unexploded shells in a nallah below. Initially fearful, the locals refused, so Baba undertook the task himself.
"Miraculously, the shells exploded when they landed in the water body. This miracle convinced locals that the Baba is a mystical personality and led to an increase of people visiting him in his hut," according to the Army.
Troops assigned to nearby battalions handle the temple's maintenance tasks, including cleaning, conducting religious rituals, and distributing prasad. The late Baba instructed troops to worship Lord Shiva in this temple, a practice that continues to this day. The troops conduct their duties as a mark of gratitude towards the Baba, ensuring the temple remains in proper condition.
The aura of the Plateau Nath Baba Mandir remains compelling for both military personnel and locals. It stands as a symbol of hope and divine protection amid the challenging conditions in Kargil.
As part of their deployment duties, military formations continue to support and uphold the temple, preserving what they believe to be a site of divine intervention throughout the conflicts in this region.
