Kangana Ranaut's ‘Emergency’ makes fresh bid to hit theatres; Zee agrees to cut scenes
Zee Entertainment and Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' film complied with CBFC's suggested cuts to resolve the certification issue. The Bombay High Court heard that certification is expected in two weeks. The release delay follows objections from Sikh...

The film, initially slated for a September 6 release, has faced delays due to ongoing issues with the CBFC regarding its certification. Last week, the CBFC communicated to the court that the movie could be released if certain cuts, as determined by the board's revising committee, were made.
During the hearing, senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani mentioned that negotiations were progressing between the CBFC and Ranaut's production company, Manikarnika Films. The matter was scheduled for further consideration by the court on Friday.
Emergency, a biographical drama depicting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has encountered controversy, particularly from Sikh organizations like the Shiromani Akali Dal, which accused it of misrepresenting historical facts. Zee Entertainment's plea to the High Court argued that the CBFC had already completed the certification process but was withholding the certificate.
Ranaut has publicly criticized the CBFC for allegedly delaying the certification to hinder the film's release, suggesting that political motivations tied to the upcoming Haryana elections were at play. The court also raised questions about why the ruling party, the BJP, would act against Ranaut, who is a member of the party.
