Just 12% of eligible Indians have taken Covid precaution dose so far

Among a total of 77 crore Indians in the 18-59 age group who are eligible for the Covid precaution vaccine, just about 12 per cent have gone for the dose so far.

The number of Indians between 18-59 years eligible for the precaution dose stands at 64,89,99,721.

Of the 16.80 crore Indians aged 60 years and above, healthcare and frontline workers, 35 per cent have taken it, officials said today.


As per official figures, a total of 15.66 crore precaution doses have been administered till now. Of these, 10.39 crore doses have been given since July 15 till now — after the launch of the 'COVID Vaccination Amrit Mahotsava'.

It is a special 75-day drive for administering vaccines free of cost.

Till July 14, the precaution dose coverage among the eligible population stood at 8 per cent.

Under the COVID Vaccination Amrit Mahotsava, 9,28,598 special camps have been held till now at such places as rail stations, bus stations, airports, educational institutes etc.

Since July 15, 10,16,78,376 doses of Covishield, 1,68,14,771 doses of Covaxin and 85,03,008 doses of Corbevax have been given.

98 per cent of India's adult population has got at least one dose of the vaccine and 92 per cent have been fully vaccinated, as per data from health ministry.
