Kolkata: JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna, the state secretariat on Wednesday in Kolkata. The two discussed investment opportunities in Bengal across power, power systems, ports, cement and steel, people in the know told ET. However details about the investment are not known.

This is his first meeting with the Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari took office.

Sajjan Jindal's JSW Group had signed a historic agreement during the Left Front regime in 2007 to set up a mega integrated steel, power, and cement complex in West Midnapore's Salboni, which was around Rs 35,000 crore, it was the single largest private investment ever pledged to West Bengal at the time.

However, the ambitious project under Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s industrialization drive faced immediate and severe hurdles, transforming into a decades-long industrial saga.

A landmine blast had happened on the Salboni-Medinipur road at Kalaichandi shortly after the convoys of former CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, and industrialist Sajjan Jindal passed after the project was inaugurated in November, 2008.
