NEW DELHI: As cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) - a rare neurological disorder - continue to rise, union health minister JP Nadda chaired a high-level meeting with ministers in Maharashtra to review the situation, reports ET.

The meeting was attended by Maharashtra ministers Prakash Abitkar (health), Hasan Mushrif (medical education) and Gulab Raghunath Patil (Jal Shakti). Senior officials in the union health ministry also attended. There have been at least five deaths in Maharashtra suspected to be due to GBS, even as the number of people infected has increased to 158 in Pune.

A situation update was presented by the Maharashtra government, including public health measures taken by the state, the health ministry said.


Nadda reviewed the public health measures being undertaken by the state health authorities including testing and treatment of patients affected by GBS.
