Joshimath: Petitioner seeks SC's intervention

A petition seeking Supreme Court's intervention into the sinking of land in Uttarakhand's Joshimath has been filed in the court. The public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati was mentioned on Monday.

CJI DY Chandrachud, however, asked the lawyer for the petitioner to mention the plea on Tuesday. The petitioner has sought the apex court's intervention to ensure immediate compensation and financial assistance to the residents of Joshimath. Several areas of Joshimath have been declared disaster prone after cracks in buildings and roads.
