Joshimath: 5.4 cm subsidence in 12 days, says Isro

A subsidence zone, including the Army helipad and Narsingh temple, resembling a generic landslide shape has been identified, with the crown of subsidence located near Joshimath-Auli road at a height of 2,180 m.

ISRO's National Remote Sensing Centre on Thursday released satellite images showing a significant increase in the rate of land subsidence in Joshimath over the past 10-12 days, up to 5.4 cm, in comparison to a 'slow subsidence' of 9 cm in seven months between April and November 2022. NRSC said that between December 27, 2022 and January 8, 2023, 'a rapid subsidence event was triggered', affecting central Joshimath.
