The 10 CTUs include the Congress-backed INTUC, Left’s CITU and AITUC and others like AIUTUC, TUCC, HMS, SEWA, LPF, AICCTU and UTUC.
“The joint platform of central trade unions and independent sectoral all India federations and associations will hold a two-day countrywide general strike on February 23-24, 2022 during the budget session of the Parliament against the anti-people, anti-worker and anti-national destructive policies of the BJP government at the centre,” the central trade unions said.
The central trade unions have demanded that the government scrap the four Labour Codes and put an end to its privatisation drive while fully scapprong the national monetisation pipeline.
Further, they have sought food and income support of Rs 7500 per month to non-income tax paying households along with universal social security for all informal sector workers.
Besides, trade unions have asked for regularisation of contract workers, scheme workers along with statutory minimum wage and social security for Anganwadi, ASHA, Mid-day-meal and other Scheme workers.
“Proper protection and insurance facilities for frontline workers serving the people in the midst of pandemic while enhancing public investments in agriculture, education, health and other crucial public utilities to revive and revamp the national economy,” the unions demand.
Their other demands include cancellation of the National Pension Scheme and substantial increase in minimum pension under Employees’ Pension Scheme of the government for the welfare of ove 380 million workforce of India.
