JNPT to resume operations from 1 am on Tuesday

At the Mundra port in Gujarat, the operator Adani Ports and Logistics has suspended berthing from Sunday afternoon and unberthed all vessels at berth by Monday morning. Visitors' entry has been restricted to the port.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), which oversees the Nhava Sheva port said that berthing at all terminals of the country’s busiest port may resume from 1 am on Tuesday depending on weather conditions after having suspended operations due to cyclone Tauktae.

The port authority said that the cyclone had passed through the Arabian sea around 250 nautical miles (463 kilometres) west of Mumbai and would be making landfall in Gujarat. The Nhava Sheva port had suspended operations and evacuated all personnel from the dockyard on Sunday evening after suspending berthing from late Saturday night.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the cyclone Tauktae on Monday morning intensified from ‘Very Severe Cyclonic Storm’ to ‘Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm’ over the Arabian Sea. The storm is expected to make landfall between Porbandar & Mahuva on the coast of Gujarat between 8 pm and 11 pm on Monday.
