The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested Special Police Officer Saima Akhter under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and dismissed her from service ‘for glorifying militancy’. The SPO who hails from Frisal in south Kashmir’s Kulgam has been booked under Section 353 of the IPC too for ‘obstructing government officials.’ The police alleged that she prevented a team of security forces from conducting search for militants in Firsal’s Karewa Mohalla on Wednesday.

“She resisted the search party and turned violent and uttered statements glorifying violent actions of terrorists. She captured a video and uploaded it on social media platforms with the intent of disrupting the search operation,” read the official police statement. The case against her has been registered at Yaripora police station.

In the video circulated on social media, a woman, not visible, is heard shouting at the armed forces. She is heard telling them that her mother was ill and they would be responsible if anything happened to her.
