Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said that they have arrested a local, Adil Manzoor Langoo, for his alleged involvement in the recent killing of two non-locals in Srinagar.

Inspector General of Police in Kashmir, VK Birdi, informed that Langoo, hailing from Zaldagar area of Srinagar, was arrested following a detailed technical and field analysis and after collecting "clinching" evidence against him.

Two non-locals from Punjab - carpenters Amritpal Singh and Rohit Masi - were fired upon by unidentified attackers on February 7 evening at Shalla Kadal area of Srinagar, when they were on way to their rented accommodation.

Singh died on the spot while Masi succumbed to his injuries at a hospital the next morning. The Resistance Front, considered to be the offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba had claimed responsibility for the attack on their social media channels.

"It came to fore that the accused had conspired with his handler in Pakistan for commission of the terror crime. Accused was a highly motivated and radicalised individual. His handler in Pakistan radicalised him on social media and motivated him to carry out the terror attack," Birdi told a select group of reporters here in Srinagar.

Police further said that the "handler" provided Langoo with the weapon after which he motivated him to carry out the attack.
