JCCI alleged that the administration is "imposing decisions without consulting representatives and stakeholders".
JCCI president Arun Gupta said the strike call was taken after a series of meetings with civil society members and other organisations of the region. He threatened to continue the protests against the policies of the administration if it doesn't rethink its decisions burdening the people of the region.
"Property tax is being imposed without consulting anybody or seeking anybody's suggestion. It seems an attitude is prevalent to impose things and the chamber has always opposed it," said Gupta while addressing a press conference here. He said that they were expecting the administration to amend its decision on its own and consult stakeholders.
"Imposing these kind of taxes is the prerogative of elected governments and representatives of local bodies but the administration has bypassed everybody and issued an order of imposing property tax," said Gupta adding, "our strike is not to disrupt routine life of people but to raise voice against the policies of the government."
